If we speak about the longest beaches in Asia then the name of Marina beach tops the list. Stretching across an area of 13Km it is one of the major attractions in Chennai. It is a sandy beach and an ideal spot for walk on the sea shore. A visit to such place is really an enchanting experience. The statues of different Tamil scholars, patriots and the noted personalities has added more beauty to the beach.
The beach is located at the center of the town so it is easily accessible by every one. Every day large number of crowds gather on the beach to enjoy the mesmerizing sun rise and sun set of the place. Water sports like para-sailing, gliding, windsurfing, cruising etc are very much available in Marina, but swimming is not allowed here as the under current of the park is very strong. Not only these, the evening is also quite exciting here like one can enjoy snacks on the sea shore stalls or can do shopping of different items. Most interestingly there is a provision of pony rides available in the beach. It is an exciting place for the children also, here they can fly kites and lots of other activities.
Around the beach
Marina beach is surrounded by some beautiful buildings. University of Madras, Senate house, Chepauk Palace, Presidency College, PWD office and Ice House which are located near the beach. At the other end of the beach there is a new lighthouse which gives a visual delight to the beach.
